PLANNING, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE
REPORT NO 90
Councilmen
County of Hawaii
Hilo, Hawaii
The following are the recommendations of the Planning, Economic
Development and Legislative Committee which were considered at its
meeting of November 1, 1972:
COMMUNICATIONS
VNo, 2114. 2: DREDGED CORAL AT KAWAIHAE HARBOR
From Governor John A. Burns dated October 20, 1972,
acknowledging receipt of Resolution 559 requesting
the Kawaihae coral be reserved for agricultural
purposes only.
Informs that it was concluded at the August 30
meeting with representatives of the State Department
of Agriculture, Land and Natural Resources , and
Transportation and the HSPA, College of Tropical
Agriculture, and Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation,
that in view of uncertainties at this time, it would
be permissible to allow the use of 150,000 tons
for future highway construction and 50,000 tons
for other purposes , such as the 30,000 tons for
development purposes. Issuance of coral to Ultramar
and Yamada for agricultural purposes will continue.
Should other demands develop, the problem will be
reexamined at which time it is hoped that more
information on agricultural requirements as well
as development plans for the stockpile area will
be available.
Receive and file.
