HomeMy WebLinkAboutREP RC 003 01/24/1973 1972-1976 1F'. !F /. • ,� 0 RECREATION COMMITTEE REPORT NO. 3 Hawaii County Council Hilo,Hawaii The following are the recommendations of the Recreation Committee which were considered at its meeting of January 24, 1973: COMMUNICATIONS 8ww .No. 83: "ALA KAHAKAI" (TRAIL BY THE SEA CONCEPT) From Councilman Kawahara dated January 12, 1973, transmitting a communication from Dr. Shelley M. Mark of the State Department of Planning and Economic Development on the matter of the planned shoreline trail between Kailua and Kawaihae. Urges Council support of this project via a letter from the Director of Parks and Recreation to Dr. Mark. Recommend that a resolution be drawn to support the "trail by the sea" concept. Aet. e&m. No. 88: LILIUOKALANI GARDENS EXPANSION(Rec. 1/FC-76) From Parks & Recreation Director dated January 9, 1973 , informing that the State Department of Transportation has indicated that it is willing to turn a . 562-acre parcel (TMK: 2-1-03: 16) over to 1 the County as an addition to the Liliuokalani Gardens complex. The only stipulation imposed by the State is that the County maintain a free and clear access to the pier. The State has funds for the development of the site and this will be turned over to the County as soon as the land is acquired. Also located adjacent to this property is another State parcel (TMK: 2-1-03: 2 ) which was the site of the former Isles Restaurant. Requests Council authorization to write the State Land and Natural Resources Department for the formal transfer of both parcels to the County of Hawaii for the purpose of expanding the facilities at Liliuokalani Gardens. RC-3 - 2 - January 24, 1973 Authorize the Parks & Recreation Director to write the State Land and Natural Resources Department for the formal transfer of the two parcels (TMK: 2-1-03:2 & 16) to the County of Hawaii for the Liliuokalani Gardens expansion. Further recommend that the Parks & Recreation Director request for the transfer of State lands on the makai side of Wailoa Drive. • 4z, 6ni .No. 89: HILO MUNICIPAL GOLF COURSE From Parks & Recreation Director dated January 16i,' 1973 , informing that about two years ago, the County purchased an additional 20-acre parcel of land for the expansion of the Hilo Municipal Golf Course with the intention of developing a driving range, practice sand trap, and pitching green. Requests the creation of a Tractor Mower Operator and a Groundskeeper positions for the golf course to strengthen their present work force to implement the improvements and provide the required maintenance.
