The following are the recommendations of the Recreation Committee
which were considered at its meeting of April 11, 1973:
COMMUNICATIONS
Comm. 88.1: LILIUOKALANI GARDENS
Copy of letter from Mayor Shunichi Kimura to Sunao Kido,
Chairman and Member of the Board of Land & Natural
Resources , dated February 27, 1973, regarding expansion
of County' s facilities at Liliuokalani Gardens.
Receive and file.
Comm. 111: WAIAKEA UKA ACTIVITIES COMPLEX
From Waiakea Uka Community Association dated January 24,
1973, transmitting a copy of a proposal submitted to the
Department of Parks & Recreation regarding the use,
control and supervision of the buildings and playground
areas which would be known as the Waiakea Uka Activities
Complex. Requests support of the proposal so that their
Association can work together with the County to provide
leisure time and recreational programs and activities
for the people of the community and the County as a
whole.

of the Council' s interest and support of

Comm. 122: NAMING OF GRANDSTAND - HOOLULU PARK COMPLEX
From Bro. Duane Crockett, President, Dr. Francis F. C.
Wong Memorial Committee, dated January 25, 1973 ,
requesting that the County of Hawaii name the grand-
stand at the Hoolulu Park Complex after Dr. Francis F. C.
Wong in tribute to an outstanding citizen and sportsman.
Submits a resolution together with signatures of citi-
zens of Hawaii County supporting this proposal. •

March 1, 1973 , concurring with request.
Approve request to name the grandstand
at the Hoolulu Park Complex after
Dr. Francis F. C. Wong and refer to
the Corporation Counsel to prepare the
proper resolution.
,,Comm. 214: CAMPING AT KAHALUU BEACH PARK (HR 247)
From C. J. Kimberly, Public Affairs Chairman, Kona
Outdoor Circle, dated March 24, 1973 , submitting comments
on House Resolution 247 to reinstate camping at Kahaluu
Beach Park. Feels that bathroom and shower facilities
should be provided at the old airport so that the area
can be opened for camping rather than at Kahaluu where
they have learned from past experience that it cannot
effectively :meet the needs of both campers and daytime
users.

that the Council agrees with their
position.
