REPORT NO. 12 —

The following are the recommendations of the Recreation
Committee which were considered at its meeting of September 1$,
1973 :
COMMUNICATIONS
/.ems G- No . 2$1.6 : HONAUNAU BOAT RAMP, SOUTH KONA (TMK: $-4-13 :14)
From Robert T. Fukuda, Parks & Recreation Director,
dated September 5, 1973, informing that the area
leased to the County through Lease No. $ from
Bishop Estate encompasses an area of only 1, 200
square feet on which the boat ramp is situated .
It is a portion of a 1.2-acre parcel which Bishop
Estate is receptive to leasing to the County.
Therefore, requests the Council for approval to
authorize their department to renegotiate Lease
No . $ with Bishop Estate to include the entire
1.2 acres for the boat ramp facility:
Approve request .
"No . 446 : PROPOSED DRAG STRIP DEVELOPMENT
WAIAKEA, SOUTH HILO (TMK: 2-1-13 : Por. of 2)
Copy of a letter to Mayor Kimura from Mr. Sunao Kido,
Chairman and Member of the Board of Land and Natural
Resources, dated September 4, 1973, requesting the
County to consider relocating the proposed drag site
to the eastern side of the subject area. If this is
not possible, they will honor the commitment on the
original site but they would prefer the alternate :

7No . 458: BEAUTIFICATION OF BAYFRONT PARK AREA ((M-14)
From Robert T. Fukuda, Parks & Recreation Director,
dated September 4, 1973, submitting copies of a
suggested beautification plan for the Hilo Bayfront
area:

4,4,c- No . 464 : TREE-TRIMMING OPERATION
From Robert T. Fukuda, Parks & Recreation Director,
dated September 12, 1973, informing that there are
over 1,000 coconut trees in 30 of the park sites
that require trimming by their crew. Because it is
physically impossible for their crew to keep abreast
of its work without some outside assistance, requests
an appropriation of $15,000 for contractual use in
their tree-trimming operation for the remainder of
the fiscal year:
Approve request and refer to the
Finance Committee for funding.
RECOMMENDATION
No . 1: OFFER TO IMPROVE SAMUEL SPENCER PARK - LIONS CLUBS
Accept the offer of the Hamakua Lions Club, Kohala
Lions Club and Waimea Lions Club to improve Samuel
Spencer Park and ask that they coordinate their
project with the Director df Parks & Recreation.
