HomeMy WebLinkAboutREP RC 013 10/02/1973 1972-1976 RECREATION COMMITTEE REPORT NO. 13 Hawaii County Council Hilo,Hawaii The following are the recommendations of the Recreation Committee which were considered at its meeting of October 2, 1973: COMMUNICATIONS C- No. 348: UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS SUBDIVISION PARK From R. B. Legaspi, Legislative Auditor, dated June 27, 1973, submitting information on the University Heights Subdivision Park. 348. 1: From Robert T. Fukuda, Parks & Recreation Director, dated July 30, 1973, informing that they are unable to take any action at the present time as the Legislature did not fund the project in their last CIP budget. They will submit the project for funding to the next legislative session. 348. 2: From Robert T. Fukuda, Parks & Recreation Director, dated September 19, 1973 , submitting for information a copy of Mr. Sunao Kido' s reply regarding the subject park. Receive and file; and request the administration to ask the Department of Land and Natural Resources for a right-of-entry to indicate the County' s desire that this area be set aside for a park site and inform them that the County will submit the project for funding at the next legislative session. Date: OCT 1. 0 1973. 410 RC-13 411 -2- October 2 , 1973 /No. 469: MORATORIUM ON ACQUISITION OF LAND FOR PARKS IN SOUTH HILO From Sam Moore, Chairman, West Hawaii Committee, dated September 13 , 1973 , asking the"County Council to declare a moratorium on expending County funds for the acquisition of land for parks and recreation, or its development in the District of South Hilo, until an equitable distribution of parks is attained elsewhere and throughout the Big Island, County of Hawaii. Zuzak, Kailua District Committee Chairman, Kona Chamber of Commerce, dated September 17, 1973, inviting the members of the Council who are interested in Kailua Park as a recreation and activity center for the community to attend a Wrap-up Dialogue Conference to review the development plans prepared by the County Department of Parks & Recreation, on Tuesday, October 2, at the old terminal building in Kailua Park at 2 p.m. Receive and file. .&«.. c- No. 487: REVISION OF CIVIC AUDITORIUM RENTAL FEES From Russell Hayashi, Circus Chairman, and Howard Nakamura, President, Mauna Kea Jaycees , dated August 30 , 1973 , thanking the Parks & Recreation Dept. for their help at the circus recently sponsored by them and asking to have the Civic rental revised from the present $100 a night or five percent of gross to a more reasonable, logical formula. Refer to the Director of Parks & Recreation and ask that consideration be given to the request of the Mauna Kea Jaycees. ✓ No. 489: PARK LAND FOR HILO AND OTHER DISTRICTS Copy of a letter to Mayor Kimura from Earl Younker, President, Kona Chamber of Commerce, dated September 19, 1973 , expressing their feeling that the money the County is prepared to spend for the acquisition of the additional five acres of park land for Hilo should be more fairly spent in supplying parks for some of the other districts. Receive and file. e- No. 502: PROPOSED KONA RECREATION CENTER KEALAKEHE, NORTH KONA From Robert T. Fukuda, Director of Parks & Recreation, dated September 20, 1973, requesting the Council' s authorization to write to the State for an immediate right-of-entry and a subsequent formal set=aside for a 150-acre parcel in Kealakehe, North Kona (TMK: 7-4-08) for development of a major athletic facility for the people of Kona. Informs that County and State funds have been appropriated for this project and the total amount is expected to cover the cost of planning and the first phase of development. Approve request.
