The following are the recommendations of the Recreation
Committee which were considered at its meeting of October 30, 1973 :
COMMUNICATIONS
AS:.L d - No. 75 .2: HOLUALOA PARK (C-75, 75 .1/RC-4)
From Robert T. Fukuda, Parks & Recreation Director,
dated October 19, 1973, informing that they have met
very strong objections from the adjoining property
owners whose lots were to be included in the total
acquisition program for the development of the
Holualoa Park. Therefore, requests that their
original recommendation of acquiring adjoining
properties to the Council be rescinded and the
subsequent action taken by the Council on February 21,
1973 be amended :
Approve request and amend action of
February 21, 1973 (C-75, 75.1/RC-4)
to read as follows:
Accept recommendation of the Parks and
Recreation Director that the offer of
the Holualoa Japanese Community

From Elizabeth Sloan, Chairman, Wildlife Committee,
Kona Conservation Group, dated October 11, 1973,
commenting on the Keei Golf Course project ;

dated October 12, 1973, reaffirming the Chamber's
position that a municipal golf course is needed in
West Hawaii and that Keei is a suitable location:

No. 531: SWIMMING POOL AT KONAWAENA SCHOOL
From Mark B. Perlmutter, Chairman Organizations Kona,
dated October 12, 1973, informing that at their meeting
of September 26, 1973, they voted unanimously to
support the construction of a swimming pool at
Konawaena School, and urges the Council to borrow any
available funds from CIP projects to build it :
Refer to the Legislative Committee
to lobby at the next session of the
legislature for funds to implement
the project .
No . 532: 1973 SUMMER FUN PROGRAM
From Robert T. Fukuda, Parks & Recreation Director,
dated October 17, 1973, submitting for information a
report on the recently concluded 1973 Summer Fun
program:

/No . 533 : KONA AIRPORT PARK IMPROVEMENTS
From Edward Harada, Chief Engineer, dated October 17,
1973, requesting Council approval for the transfer
of $165,000 from Ordinance 409 - Kona Recreational
Complex account, to the Kona Airport Park Improvements
project to satisfy the total bid amount and provide
for project contingency:
Refer to the Finance Committee and
support action taken on FC-13 .

From Council Chairman Robert M. Yamada, dated October 25,
1973, referring for consideration the following concerns
of the Hamakua District Development Council presented to
the Council by Mr. P . Quentin Tomich on October 10:
(1) Construction of an identifying sign at the Waipio
Valley pavilion;
(2) Installation of a pay telephone for emergency
purposes at Waipio Valley;
