HomeMy WebLinkAboutREP RTC 045 05/14/1975 1972-1976 RECREATION AND TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE Report No. 45 Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii The following are the recommendations of the Recreation and Transportation Committee which were considered at its meeting of May 14, 1975 : COMMUNICATIONS �No. 975.5 : KUA BAY From William Reich, Legislative Chairman, Hawaii Island Chapter, Conservation Council, dated April 25 , 1975, expressing their feeling that the County Council should rescind the appropriation for the purchase of Kua Bay for two reasons, as listed. 975.6 : From Councilman Kawahara dated May 9, 1975 submitting a copy of letter from Christopher Cobb, Chairman and Member of the Board of Land and Natural Resources, in reply to a request as to whether the State is committed to turn over Maniniowale lands to the County for a park. Receive and file. iTo. 1206.3 : HAWAII COUNTY TRANSIT SYSTEM ® OPERATING REPORT From Walton Wood, Transit Manager, dated May 6, 1975, submitting the operating report for April, 1975. Receive and file. k C-"No. 1233 : HAKALAU PARK - NAMING OF PARK AND SERVING LIQUOR From Jack Y. Ouye, President 'of the Hakalau Recreational Council & Hilo Coast:-Little League, dated March 16, 1975, - requesting permission to serve liquor at Hakalau Park and requesting that the park be officially named the Hakalau Veterans Stadium. /s,„_ - 1233.1: From Mayor Matayoshi dated April 25, 1975 submitting comments on C-1233. Recommend facility be named the "Hakalau Veterans Park, " and refer to Corporation Counsel to prepare the proper resolution. Ramler, Director of Programs , Hawaii Bicentennial Commission, dated April 23, 1975, transmitting copies of House Concurrent Resolution 141 and House Resolution 737 encouraging each island to develop its own individual flag by 1976. Support resolutions and request the administration to look into the advisability of conducting a contest to select an appropriate flag for this island. AL, ( No. 1305 : DISPOSAL OF SURPLUS BUILDING BY PUBLIC AUCTION From Director of Finance Stanley A. Nakamae, dated May 7, 1975 submitting a resolution authorizing disposal of a cottage situated adjacent to Onekahakaha Beach Park, Hilo (TMK: 2-1-14-22) , by public auction in accordance with the provisions of Ord. No. 69. Approve and recommend adoption of Resolution 404. c„ .. No. 1307: AMENDMENTS TO THE TRAFFIC CODE From Robert J. Santos, Chairman, Highway Safety Council, dated April 18, 1975, recommending amendment to the Traffic Code to establish the driveway just North of the Mooheau Bus Terminal as a one-way egress driveway on to Kamehameha Avenue. Accept recommendation and refer to Corporation Counsel to prepare the proper amendment. IIP RTC-45 -3- May 21, 1975 RESOLUTION 'Res. 403 : SALARY ORDINANCE AMENDMENT Amends the Salary Ordinance for the Department of Parks and Recreation, Maintenance Division. Approve and recommend adoption. ORDINANCE Bill1131: AMENDMENT TO TRAFFIC CODE-SPEEDING IN KEAUKAHA AREA (C-895/RTC-33 ) Amends Chapter 6 (Traffic Code) , Article 8, Section 5 (Special Speed Limits ) , to reduce the speed limit from 45 mph to 35 mph on Kalan-ianaole Street from Kamehameha to its terminus.
