The following are the recommendations of the Recreation and Transportation
Committee which were considered' at its meeting of May .26 , 1976:
COMMUNICATIONS
4rvi. No. 944.4: HONOLULU SYMPHONY
From Robert J. van der Wege, Culture and Arts Coordinator,
University of Hawaii at Hilo Continuing Education and
Community Service Center, dated May 20, 1976, asking RTC
to support bringing the Honolulu Symphony to the Big Island
in November, 1976 by making funds and services available.
Informs that a budget of $25 , 395 will be needed to bring
the 61-member symphony for three days to provide between
19-32 separate programs .or performances throughout the
island. That National Endowment for the Arts has contributed .
approximately $1,000, the State Foundation on Culture and
the Arts has provided an. additional $12 , 500 ; therefore, an
additional funding of $12,000 is needed.

"No. 1847: BASEBALL PRACTICE FIELD
. From Councilman Fujii dated April 27, 1976 asking RTC
to recommend funding and directions to administration
to develop the area between the IIoolulu Park swimming
pool and the Walter Victor Stadium for a baseball practice
field.
° X1847 ..1 : From Mayor Matayoshi dated May 17, 1976 informing, that he'
has instructed the Parks and Recreation Director to conduct
a -detailed ' study as to whether a practice field can be
developed at the proposed site and will forward his
recommendation upon completion of this study.

�No. 1870 : STATUS REPORT - RECREATIONAL FACILITIES
From Parks and Recreation Director Milton T. Hakoda dated
May 11, 1976 submitting as requested information on the
Kealakehe Recreation Complex, Seven Seas Restaurant Building,
and Seven Seas Luau House.

Apa_C- No. 1876 : HONOKAA RODEO ARENA
From Councilman De Luz dated May 13, 1976 informing that
County and State funds have been appropriated for the
development of a rodeo arena in the Honokaa area and requests
RTC to ask the administration to submit a status report on or
before its June 22 ;meeting; recommends the present private
rodeo grounds in Honokaa be considered if the administration
has not considered acquisition of a new site.
Approve request for a status report
and ask administration for comments
on Councilman De Luz ' s recommendation.
Res. 581: SALARY ORDINANCE AMENDMENT
Amends the salary ordinance for the Department of Parks
and Recreation, Recreation Division.
Approve and recommend adoption.
Res. 582: SALARY ORDINANCE AMENDMENT
Amends the salary ordinance for the Department of Parks
and Recreation, Maintenance Division;
Approve and recommend adoption.
