The following are the recommendations of the Public Works
Committee which were considered at its meeting of August 14, 1974:
COMMUNICATIONS
No. 556.8: HILO BAY
From E. H. Araujo, President of the Hawaii Island
Chamber of Commerce, dated July 30, 1974, submitting
a summary of the meeting held in. Hilo on July 25,
and a copy of recent correspondence to the Corps
of Engineers regarding the Hilo Bay Study.
Receive and file.
4,(,e- No. 921: KAUMANA ESTATES SUBDIVISION
From Corporation Counsel Clifford Lum dated July 29,
1974, submitting for approval and acceptance. a deed
from Takeshi Yokono dedicating the roadways and
water system. Recommends dedication deed be accepted.
Recommend acceptance of
dedication deed.
No. 927: BIKEWAYS - AVAILABILITY OF FEDERAL FUNDS
Copy of a letter from Mayor Bruce McCall to Robert J.
Santos, Chairman of the Highways Safety Council,
dated July 25, 1974, regarding availability of Federal
funds for bikeways provided a general or master plan
has been adopted for the particular jurisdiction and
informing that the Planning Department is working
on development plans.

From Mayor McCall dated August 5, 1974, submitting for
approval the appointment of Louie Costa for a term
ending December 26, 1978.
Recommend confirmation of
appointment to the Water
Commission.
/ No. 936 : KONA CONDOMINIUM - DRIVEWAY VARIANCE
(Res. 263 ) From Chief Engineer Edward Harada dated July 30, 1974,
recommending favorable consideration for a driveway
variance for a 200-unit Kona Condominium.
Approve and recommend adoption
of Resolution 263.
- No. 937: NATIONAL FLOOD INSURANCE
(Bills 65, 66,From Chief Engineer, Harada dated July 31, 1974,
67, 68, 69) requesting enactment of bills for an ordinance which
are necessary to meet the County's obligations
regarding the National Flood Insurance program.
Approve and recommend passage
of Bills 65, 66, 67, 68, and
69 on first reading, and refer
Bills 66, 68 and the amendments
to the Zone Map to the Planning
Commission for comments and refer
back to Committee.
,C- No. 938: LANIHAU COMMERCIAL PARK - DRIVEWAY VARIANCE
(Res. 264) From Chief Engineer Harada dated August 1, 1974,
recommending favorable consideration for a driveway
variance for Lanihau Commercial Park.
Approve and recommend adoption
of Resolution 264.
No. 939 : NAALEHU WATERSHED PROJECT
From Chief Engineer Harada dated August 1, 1974,
requesting $15 ,000 be appropriated to repair damages
to the wall and embankment.
Approve request and refer to the
Finance Director for funding.

Le Gd- No. 957: ADDITIONAL STREET LIGHTS - HAILI STREET
From Dorothea Carvalho dated August 15, 1974, requesting
additional street lights for Haili Street because of
the numerous burglaries in that area.
Refer to the Chief Engineer
for consideration in the lighting
schedule.
