RESOLUTION NO. 78 17
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA 0 PUNA
FOR THE RENOVATION OF ITS ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCE CENTER.
WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is a 501(c)(3) local nonprofit whose purpose is to assure
critical habitat for native species and open space for future generations; and
WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is renovating its newly acquired "forever home" into an
Environmental Resource Center to be used by the community at large; and
WHEREAS, the Environmental Resource Center, located in Pahoa Village, will provide
much needed meeting space for community groups and individuals that have been displaced due
to a recent fire that destroyed the Akebono Theater and Luquin's Mexican Restaurant, both of
which were regularly used by the community as a meeting space; and
WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is requesting funds to continue renovations to its
Environmental Resource Center as well as to reimburse its board members for renovation
expenses paid from their personal funds; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of
Research and Development to provide a grant to Malama 0 Puna for the renovation of its
Environmental Resource Center.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
