The following are the recommendations of the Finance Committee
which were considered at its meeting of January 9, 1973:
COMMUNICATIONS
lNo. 52: AUDIT REPORT - PEAT, MARWICK, MITCHELL & CO.
From Finance Committee Chairman dated December 27,
1972, transmitting copies of the Audit Report of
Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Company dated June 30, 1972.
No. 68: FORMER PROSECUTING ATTORNEY - REVIEW OF ACCOUNTS
From Finance Director dated January 3 , 1973 ,
informing that pursuant to Section 10-13 of the
County Charter, they have conducted an audit and
review of the accounts of Mr. Yoshito Tanaka,
former Prosecuting Attorney, and reports that the
accounts are in order.
The Committee recommends receiving
and filing of the letters which are
for information only.
et (-No. 22: OUTRIGGER CANOE RACING
From Parks & Recreation Director dated December 8 ,
1972, requesting a $15,000 appropriation to
purchase five canoes to promote the development of
more racing clubs to renew interest in the ancient
Hawaiian sport of outrigger canoe racing. The
County would loan the canoes to the clubs during
the racing season and retain them for its own program
during the off-season.
The Committee recommends approval of
the request for a $15,000 appropriation
to purchase the canoes and directs the
Finance Director to set up the funds.

No. 48: LYMAN MUSEUM - FREE ADMISSION TO ISLAND SCHOOL
CHILDREN AND SENIOR CITIZENS (C-1959/FC-85)
From Corporation Counsel dated December 18, 1972 ,
responding to the request as to whether or not
the Lyman Museum can grant free admission to
island school children and senior citizens and
thereby qualify for monetary assistance from the
County.
Answers in the affirmative provided the guidelines
for expenditure and Op. No. 27(72) , previously
adopted by the Council, is followed.
The committee is in accord with the
opinion rendered by the Corporation
Counsel and recommends that an
agreement be entered into between the
County of Hawaii and the Lyman Museum.

4ce. G' - No. 64: APPOINTEES FOR CONFIRMATION
From Mayor Kimura dated December 29, 1972,
submitting for confirmation appointees to the
Planning Commission, Civil Service Commission,
Water Commission, Board of Ethics, Liquor Control
Adjudication Board, Liquor Commission, Police
Commission and Board of Appeals.
The Committee welcomed the opportunity
to interview the appointees to the
Civil Service Commission, Board of
Ethics , Liquor Control Adjudication
Board, and Liquor Commission and
recommends their confirmation.

TMK: 2-1-17: 21, 22 and 51
TOTAL AREA: 91, 184 sq. ft.
From Corporation Counsel dated January 5, 1973,
submitting a copy of a tentative agreement with
Dr. Ernest Schwartz to purchase the subject
property for the agreed price of $562,000, subject
to Council approval and funding.
Requests approval of the purchase and appropriation
of the necessary funds.

The Committee recommends approval
of the purchase price and requests
the Finance Director to set up
the funds before the end of this
fiscal year. The Committee further
requests the Parks & Recreation
Director to consider pursuing for
additional Federal funds.
