FINANCE COMMITTEE REPORT NO. 54 Councilmen County of Hawaii Hilo, Hawaii The following are the recommendations of the Finance Committee which were considered at its meeting of September 30, 1975: COMMUNICATIONS /, C'- No. 517. 5: SETTING OF REAL PROPERTY TAX RATES From Mayor Matayoshi dated September 19, 1975, inform- ing of the timetable for setting real property tax rates for fiscal year 1975-76. Recommend approval of the following schedule for the setting of the real property tax rates: October 8, 1975 - Passage on first reading of the resolution deter- mining the real property tax rates for the County of Hawaii for the fiscal year July 1, 1975, to June 30, 1976. October 10, 1975- Publication of notice setting public hear- ing in the County Councilroom at 7:00 p.m. on October 22, 1975. October 22, 1975- Public hearing in the County Councilroom at 7:00 p.m. October 23, 1975- Second and final read- ing of the resolution. ADOPTED: October 8, 1975 Pt,eportNo. Elle No. Pede- m. iy. No. IGS 1 4 OCT 8 1975„ f FC-54 -2- • Sept. 30, 1975 ,60,, C- No. 1174.3: HAWAII COUNTY GOVERNMENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM From Councilman Carpenter dated September 15, 1975, recommending that the Council be assigned two interns for the specific purpose of studying the real property tax situation in Hawaii County. Request the Mayor to assign two interns to the County Council for appropriate assignments. �No. 1446: CLAIM - LEO'S RUBBISH SERVICE From Mrs. Leopoldino filing a claim of $146.85 for damages to the windshield while parked at the Hoolulu Park stadium on June 28, 1975, during a senior Little League baseball game. C_ 1446.1: From Deputy Corporation Counsel Earl T. Nakasato dated September 16, 1975, informing that their investigation of the claim revealed that the County is not liable for the alleged damages and recommends denial of the claim. Accept recommendation of the Corporation Counsel and recommend that the claim be denied. 'No. 1503.1: HAWAII ISLAND HUMANE SOCIETY (6-1503/FC-52) From Mayor Matayoshi dated September 18, 1975, inform- ing that they will take Mrs. Torres' comments into consideration in their study of the East Hawaii pound operation. Receive and file. No. 1553: ENERGY SOURCES From Robert M. Yamada, Vice-President, Hawaii State Association of Counties, dated September 15, 1975, submitting for information and reference purposes copy of letter from Dante K. Carpenter, Chairman of the HSAC Ad Hoc Committee on the Development of Alternative Energy Sources, to George Koga, HSAC President, as the County of Hawaii may be asked to share in the funding for the Assessment of the Potential of Wind and Solar Energy in Hawaii. Receive and file. 1 7 f FC-54 -3- 41/ Sept. 30, 1975 ,6 C_ No. 1567: DISPOSAL OF BUILDING AT WAIMEA PARK From Milton T. Hakoda, Parks & Recreation Director, dated September 22, 1975, informing that in 1972 the County acquired a 2.28-acre parcel adjoining Waimea Park which included the home of Mr. Samuel Kaapuni. Mrs. Thelma Lindsey, sister of Mr. Kaapuni, has expressed a strong interest in the building and since it has no value from a recreational or parks stand- point, recommends that Mrs. Lindsey's request be honored. She has agreed to remove the building at her own expense. Accept recommendation to dispose of the building at Waimea Park. Res. 462: SALARY ORDINANCE AMENDMENT Amends the Salary Ordinance for the Department of Parks and Recreation and Police Department.
