The following are the recommendations of the Finance Committee
which were considered at its meeting of January 13, 1976:
COMMUNICATIONS
'No. 834: CLAIM - ABELAWONG
From AbelAwong dated May 7, 1974, filing a claim in
the amount of $3 , 325 for property damages to his
home on April 19, 1974 due to the negligent failure
of the County to properly maintain its sewers in
an adequate condition to carry off water resulting
from heavy rainfall.

dated December 8, 1975 recommending denial of the claim.
Accept recommendation of the
Corporation Counsel and recommend.
that the claim be denied.
No. 1406. 3: BOND ANTICIPATION NOTES
From Director of Finance Stanley A. Nakamae dated
December 30, 1975, reporting the events concerning
the issuance and sale of $2,000,000 Bond Anticipation
Notes, 1975, of the County of Hawaii.
Receive and file.
4eLe No. 1666: PROTEST INCREASE IN REAL PROPERTY TAX
From Richard A. Jackson, President, Nanawale Estates,
dated December 12, 1975, protesting increase in real
property taxes which represents the third increase
in as many years. Informs value of lots in Nanawale
Estates has remained the same for the last three
years and while taxes have gone up, they have seen
little effort on the part of the State or County
governments to cut operating costs; hopes Council
will take a solid stand on this matter.

yY No. 1674: APPOINTMENT OF ADDITIONAL EMPLOYEES OF A COUNTY
LEGISLATIVE BODY
From Council Chairman Lanny H. Morisaki, County of
Maui, dated December 19, 1975, asking comments and
recommendations ona proposed bill to amend Chapter 46
of the Hawaii Revised Statutes regarding the
appointment of additional employees of a county
legislative body.
Support intent of proposed bill.
k„,2- No. 1675: FUND BALANCES
(Bill 201) From Director of Finance Stanley A. Nakamae dated
December 19, 1975, informing pursuant to Section 10-8
of the County Charter the availability of $284,000
which resulted from actual fund balances at the end
of June 1975, being higher than the estimated amount;
requests $284,000 be appropriated to the accounts
specified in the bill so that it can be used primarily
for earthquake-tidal wave damage repairs.
Approve and recommend passage of
Bill 201 on first reading.
C-:-No. 1679: PROFILE - ARTHUR YOUNG & COMPANY
From Thomas E. Brightbill, Office Director of
Management Services, Arthur Young & Company, dated
December 22 , 1975, indicating their interest in
performing professional services for the County of
Hawaii and asks for opportunity to discuss their
qualifications for any auditing, accounting, or
special studies work for the County.
Receive and file; and inform writer
that they will be considered for
auditing services in the future.
Res. 516: SALARY ORDINANCE AMENDMENT
Amends the salary ordinance for the Police Department.
Approve and recommend adoption.
