COMMUNICATIONS No. 1753: PROPOSAL TO ESTABLISH A PUBLIC INEBRIATE/DETOXIFICATION PROGRAM FOR BIG ISLAND From Bill McGee, Executive Director, Big Island Council on Addiction, dated February 26, 1976, expressing appreciation for adoption of Resolution 544 in support of BICA' s Halfway House Outreach and Education project and transmits data pertaining to 28 months of operations at Halfway House. Asks Council to entertain a proposal to establish a public inebriate/detoxification program for the Big Island. 1753.1: From Mayor Herbert T. Matayoshi dated March 23 , 1976, responding to C-1753.1. Advises it has been their position that County funds should not be used to sup- plement non-profit corporations but they will conti- nue to assist BICA in acquiring other funds to Conti- _ nue its program or expand in other areas as the needs are justified. Davies, Partner-in-Charge, Price Waterhouse & Co. , dated March 18, 1976, informing of their firm' s desire to be included among those firms who are requested to submit proposals for audit- ing or management consultingwork requiring the ser- vices of a certified public accounting firm. Receive and file; and inform writer that they will be con- sidered for auditing services in the future. , r,c- No. 1818: OAKLEY V. COUNTY OF HAWAII , ET AL. CIVIL NO. 2360 From Katsuya Yamada, Deputy Corporation Counsel, dated April 6, 1976, advising that in considering the potential liability and the extent of liability if judgment were to be returned against the County of Hawaii in the above case, it would be in the best interest of the County to settle the case for the remaining $100 ,000 of the $200 ,000 settlement offer by the plaintiff' s counsel . The insurance carrier for the contractor has agreed to pay $100, 000 as their share of the settlement. Approve settlement amount and refer to Finance Director for funding. , - 18/g•/Fc,-7L1 ,See.. Pet. 25 : A FIRE STATION FOR KOHALA From Hiram Kaoo, President, Kohala Communicty Associa- tion, dated March 24, 1976 , submitting copy of their letter and petition to Mayor Matayoshi regarding a fire station for Kohala and asks the Council to look with favor on their concerns. Refer Petition 25 to the administration for a report by May 5 , 1976 as to the progress of the master plan as it pertains to fire stations for the districts of Kau, Hamakua, Pahoa and Kohala in terms of priorities for implementation. Also that the administration consider the possible reduction of numbers of personnel in existing fire stations to allow imple- mentation of 24-hour fire protection units for the above-mentioned rural areas on a phased basis with small complements. 1'A .
