COUNTY OF HAWAII • . • <br /> �•� "=-''�/ • STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 83 1 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S BIKE <br /> PATROL PROGRAM IN SOUTH HILO. <br /> WHEREAS, the County of Hawai`i Police Department, Community Policing Unit, is <br /> committed to working cooperatively with the community to enforce laws, preserve peace, and <br /> provide a safe environment; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Community Policing Unit has a Bike Patrol program that provides more <br /> visibility and presence in the community and has proven very effective in addressing street-level <br /> crimes, public nuisance complaints, recurring problems, and property crimes; and <br /> WHEREAS, bike patrols are also necessary for large community events such as the <br /> Merrie Monarch Festival, the Domestic Violence Walk, the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes march, the <br /> Ironman triathlon, and various marathons, parades, and protests; and <br /> WHEREAS, the bicycles used for the Bike Patrol program in South Hilo are weathered, <br /> aged, and unsafe for officers to ride, and the Police Department is lacking maintenance funds for <br /> tune-ups, brake and chain replacements, tires, gears, and other essentials; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Police Department is requesting funds for the Bike Patrol program in <br /> South Hilo for the purchase of new bikes and maintenance costs; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to the Police Department <br /> for the Bike Patrol program in South Hilo. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
