Subject: Res. 49-17 - We Need lifeguards at Kua Bay RECEIVED )

Dear Council Members,
I am writing on behalf of family, friends, visitors to the islands and lifeguards that I know. We must fund and
continue to have lifeguards at Kua Bay. This cannot be an option. Hawaiian waters are beautiful, yet they can be
deceitful. Unknowing tourists and locals do not always understand the power that the ocean can have.
To have a beach, which at times can be silently dangerous, with no lifeguards is a big miss on the part of the
island of Hawaii. To have a visitor to the beach endanger their life, or worse yet loose their life to the ocean is
not only disheartening, but creates a bad reputation for tourism to our lovely aina.
Though there is a cost to hosting lifeguards at the beach, we must somehow find a way in the budget to make
this lifeguard stand a reality. We cannot continue to hope that no one will get injured. Hope and luck only lasts
for so long. Our worlds finest lifeguards are the real angels that we can count and depend on.
I respectfully request you fund resolution 49-17 to ensure lifeguards are at Kua Bay.
Mahalo,
Mandy Minor
