The following are the recommendations of the Planning, Research
and Development Committee which were considered at its meeting of
August 21, 1973 :
COMMUNICATIONS
No. 120 : SALE OF SWORDFISH
From Councilman William S. Kawahara dated February 5,
1973, informing that the people of Hawaii have been
suffering because of an arbitrary ruling that prohibits
the sale of swordfish, but not the eating of it; feels
steps must be taken to clear the air on this matter
which is of significant economic and social import to
the County; urges the County to investigate this matter
as it is of considerable economic importance.
120.1: From Lloyd Sadamoto, Acting Director of the Department
of Research and Development dated March 7, 1973 , sub-
mitting response received from the Department of Health
with supportive material regarding the sale and con-
sumption of swordfish.

From Mrs . Mary W. Earl commending Mr. Yamada on his
outspoken criticism of the ordinance (Bill 1012)
limiting building heights.

August 20, 1973, transmitting Resolution 108 opposing
the turning of Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona into a "Mall. "

RECOMMENDATION
No. 1: SPECIAL COMMITTEE - KAILUA
Recommends that the Council Chairman appoint a special
committee to discuss all pending matters concerning
the Kailua district and come up with recommendations.
