HomeMy WebLinkAboutREP PRDC 029 05/14/1974 1972-1976 4114 PLANNING, •RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE REPORT NO. 29 Hawaii County Council Hilo,Hawaii The following are the recommendations of the Planning, Research and Development Committee which were considered at its meeting of May 14, 1974: COMMUNICATIONS 4.eL c _ No. 556.4: HILO BAY STUDY - HAWAII ISLAND CHAMBER OF COMMERCE REQUEST From Philip Yoshimura, President, Big Island Chapter, Hawaii Society of Professional Engineers, dated April 16, 1974, informing that they went on record to solicit support from the Hawaii Congressional delegation in pursuing the Hilo Bay study and asking the Council' s continued support in urging the Corps of Engineers to conduct such a study. Receive and file and inform the writer the Council has adopted Resolution 144 in support of the Hilo Bay study. No. 661.1: CONSUMER PROTECTION COMMITTEE REPORT (C-661/PRDC-26 ) From Ronald Y. Amemiya, Director, Office of Consumer Protection, dated April 11, 1974, responding to the report made by the Hawaii County Consumer Protection Committee. Informs that they are in agreement that a full-time member of his office should be housed on the Big Island and that the State Department of Budget and Finance has been conferring with his office regarding the possible placement of a full-time OCP staff member on each of the neighbor islands. Patterson, Chairman of the Board, King Corporation, dated March 8, 1974, requesting a variance from the sign ordinance to place a "For Sale" sign measuring less than 32 square feet adjacent to their property at Ooma, North Kona. Zm,. e_ 732.1: From Edward Harada, Chief Engineer, dated April 5 , 1974, recommending that the applicant be advised to obtain approval from the Board of Land and Natural Resources and State Highways Division before sub- mitting their request to the Council. Accept the recommendation of the Chief Engineer and advise the applicant to first obtain approval from the Board of Land and Natural Resources and State Highways Division. Suefuji , Planning Director, dated April 22, 1974, informing that they are currently studying Councilman Kawahara' s concern on building requirements and shoreline setbacks with the Chief Engineer and that they intend to complete their study before June 1974 for action by the Planning Commission. Receive and file. L,, e_ No. 822 : MAUNA KEA MASTER PLAN From Mae E. Mull, Island of Hawaii Representative, Hawaii Audubon Society, dated May 3, 1974, asking for support for an integrated, long-term Mauna Kea Master Plan to include all land use in the Conservation District, as well as land use in the Science Reserve at the summit which is on lease to the University of Hawaii until the year 2033. Recommend support of the idea for both scientific and recrea- tional purposes in planning of the Mauna Kea area.
