COMMUNICATIONS c_ No. 227. 7: RULES AND REGULATIONS RELATING TO ENVIRONMENTAL SHORELINE PROTECTION (ACT 176) From W. Y. Thompson, Executive Secretary, Hawaii Leeward Conference, dated November 14 , 1975 , submitting for in- formation copies of testimonies offered during the recent hearing held on the Interim Shoreline Protection Rules and Regulations, and Shoreline Protection Boundaries. Ex- presses concern on the marked difference between the West Hawaii shoreline protection boundaries as compared to the Hilo boundaries; informs that in 1977 the State Coastal Zone Management program *will be completed, legislation will be enacted and CZM boundaries determined based on the extensive and indepth studies now underway; therefore, recommends moving cautiously now. Refer to the Planning Department, Planning • Commission and Corporation Counsel for possible amendment to the rules and regulations relating to the Environmental Shoreline Protection. Approve and recommend passage of Bill 191 on first reading. Meyer dated November 14, 1975 transmitting for consideration a reso- lution requesting the State of Hawaii to authorize a land use permit for the proposed research project and temporary facilities to be constructed at Ke-Ahole Point, which the National Science Foundation has funded to the University of Hawaii and Carnegie Mellon University.
