FOUNDATION

Copy of letter to Hawaii Conference Foundation from
Planning Director dated August 3, 1976, advising
they have not received a progress report on subject
development as requested in their letter of July 22,
1976; requests that a response to the status of the
development be submitted within seven days upon
receipt of the 'letter.

Copy of letter to Kona Ventures , Inc. , from Planning
Director dated August 9, 1976, informing they will not
look favorably at the deletion of the construction
performance condition spelled out in the subject
ordinance. Since the time for commencing construction
was extended to November, informs that there is still
time to meet the requirements ; should they feel, however,
that this condition cannot possibly be met by the
December deadline, then another reasonable time exten-
sion may be requested.

KAILUA VILLAGE DESIGN PLAN
From Planning Director dated August 3, 1976, informing
that the change of zone request submitted by Foodland
Supermarkets, Ltd. , . is currently under review; will
apprise the Committee of the findings as soon as all
reports have been received and analyzed which should
not take any longer than a month.

No. 1900.1 : COMMENTS ON TOURIST INDUSTRY AND OTHER. MATTERS
From Mayor Herbert T. Matayoshi dated August 5 , 1976,
strongly contesting Mr. William Kawahara' s depiction
of the leadership of Hawaii County with regard to
the tourist industry and other matters.

'No. 1931 : MAKAHIKI PUBLIC HIKING TRAIL
From Councilwoman Merle K. Lai dated July 1, 19.76,
encouraging the use of the term "Makahiki Public
Hiking Trail" and secondarily referring to the trail
as the William Ellis Exploration Route, also feels
it is time to delineate the exact ,path of such a
trail and to gain necessary public" access around
the island.

gestion to use the term "Makahiki' Public . Hiking Trail01.
since study and inventory of trails have. expanded
beyond just the William Ellis Trail to include other
coastal and inland trails.
Approve use of the term
"Makahiki Public Hiking Trail"
and refer to Corporation Counsel
to prepare proper resolution.

From Andrew P. Sackett, District Health Officer,
Hawaii, State Department of Health dated August 12,
1976, submitting a report on the diseased animal
problem.

4.,„,8_ No. 1964: REVIEW OF LAWS
From Mayor Herbert T. Matayoshi dated August 5, 1976,
informing that he is currently reviewing laws which
appear to be archaic; request assistance so that all
superseded, duplicated or unnecessary provisions
relating to county organization, operations and
powers of a local nature may be repealed.

submitting as requested by the Finance Committee a
status report on the subject subdivision.
