The following are the recommendations of the Agriculture and
Visitor Industry Committee which were considered at its meeting of
May 9, 1973 :
COMMUNICATIONS:
SB 743 : APPROPRIATION FOR RESEARCH FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE
IC-191 ) PAPAYA INDUSTRY IN HAWAII (Hara)
Would appropriate $10,000, to be expended by the
College of Tropical Agriculture , for a technical
support position for assisting research in the
papaya replant problem.

SB 871 : TOURISM (Nishimura)
1(C-191) A short-form bill to provide for improvements in
the orderly development of the tourist industry in
Hawaii.

`No. 213 : SENATE BILL 1226 - HAWAII VISITORS BUREAU
From John G. Simpson, President, Hawaii Visitors
Bureau, dated March 23, 1973, thanking the Council
for the resolution supporting the activities of the
Hawaii Visitors Bureau and opposing Senate Bill 1226,
which recommended a cut to $500,000 in their budget.

�No. 251 : RESOLUTION 42 - DECLARE THE KAU DISTRICT A
DISASTER AREA
From Governor John A. Burns dated April 11, 1973,
transmitting a report prepared in response to
Resolution 42 by the Department of the Defense and
Agriculture and finds that it is not feasible to
declare the Kau District a disaster area at this
time.

266: RELOCATION OF FARMING OPERATIONS
From George M. Takane, Clerk, House of Representatives,
dated April 17, 1973, transmitting a copy of House
Resolution 15 requesting the Mayors and the County
Councils of the Counties of Hawaii, Maui and Kauai
to study and recommend incentives for farmers to
relocate their farming operations in the Counties
of Hawaii, Maui, and Kauai.
Request the administration to
proceed with the study as requested
in House Resolution 15 and submit
recommendations to the Council
two months prior to the 1974
legislative session.
RECOMMENDATION
,c':,, j;�� No. 1 : WATER RESOURCES AND UTILIZATION
Request the Department of Water Supply in conjunction
with the State Department of Land and Natural Resources
to submit a cost estimate and parameters to conduct a
feasibility study on the development of resources and
utilization of water for the geographical district of
