The following are the recommendations of the Agriculture and Visitor
Industry Committee which were considered at its meeting of April 15, 1974:
COMMUNICATIONS
No. 379.5 : SHIP GREETING/DEPARTURE PROGRAMS (Rec. 1/AVIC-12)
Copy of letter to Mr. Charles Kamaka, President, Hawaii
Island Visitor Industry Association, from Lloyd T. Sadamoto,
Acting Director, Department of Research and Development,
dated March 7, 1974, relinquishing coordination of the
ship greeting/departure programs to HIVIA to assume this
responsibility.
/« C - 379.6 : From Legislative Auditor R. B. Legaspi dated April 9, 1974,
submitting a communication received from the Department of
Research and Development regarding HIVIA's assuming
responsibility for all ship greetings and departures .
Regrets that information or documents regarding past or
planned visitations are insufficient at the local level to
initiate a study to determine the economic impact of
ships' visitations in consultation with the various Chambers
of Commerce and the Hawaii Visitors Bureau.
Request that the Legislative Auditor
continue to work with HIVIA on an
economic impact study relative to
passenger ship visitation to the
Big Island.
No. 783 : AIR CARGO CHARGES
From Councilman Tomio Fujii dated April 9, 1974, submitting
a proposed resolution requesting CAB to rescind their
authorization permitting American Airlines and Flying Tiger
Airlines to change the present cubic dimensional rule from
a minimum of 6.5 pounds per cubic foot to a new minimum of
8.9 pounds per cubic foot.
Recommends that favorable action be taken by the County
Council supporting the intent of the resolution and said
intentions be conveyed to the State Legislature, delegates
in Congress and the Civil Aeronautics Board as soon as
possible.
Recommend support.
