The following are the recommendations of the Legislative Committee
which were considered at its meeting of April 23, 1974:
COMMUNICATIONS
No. 132. 74: FLUORIDATION
From Dorothea Carvalho dated April 15, 1974, pointing
out that decayed teeth can be prevented by proper diet
and dental care but there is no substitute for freedom -
freedom of choice.
X132® 75 : From Councilman Dante K. Carpenter dated April 15,
1974, transmitting for disposition a petition submitted
by Mr. Jack Davis opposing the fluoridation of Hawaii
County public water supplies.
132.76 : From Mrs. Verna L. Mauldin dated April 15, 1974, trans-
mitting an article on fluoridation from a Canadian
magazine and informs that fluoridation has been success-
fully used in Toronto for at least 20 years.
132® 77: From Mr. Milton M. Fujiuchi , Secretary, Hawaii County
Dental Society, dated April 12, 1974, informing that
they are 100 percent behind the fluoridation of the
County water supply system.
'132. 78: From David Watumull dated April 18, 1974, suggesting
that fluoridation of the public water supply be
submitted to a referendum of the people of the County
of Hawaii in the elections this November.
No. 196: From Mary Earl, Chairman, Civics Committee, Hilo Woman' s
(Item 2 ) Club, dated March 10, 1973, informing that they support
the ordinance for fluoridation of the County water
supply.
No. 236: Copy of a letter to Mayor Kimura from Reginald Lau,
President, Hawaii PTA, dated February 26, 1973, reaffirming
their endorsement of fluoridation of water supplies.
