From Jack Abrams, President, Western Region District,
National Association of Counties, dated June 14, 1974,
urging county officials to send a resolution or letter
(or both) requesting field hearings on the payments-
in-lieu of taxes legislation, H. R. 12225.
Support the recommendation
and refer to the Corporation
Counsel to prepare the proper
resolution.
C. No. 879 : PARI-MUTUEL BETTING
From Charles Isaak, Chairman, Economic Development
Committee, Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, and
Helene Hale, Chairman, Economic Development Committee,
Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Hawaii,
dated June 13, 1974, requesting that the County Council
establish an Ad Hoc Committee of Councilmen and com-
munity members to undertake a thorough review of the
subject of pari-mutuel betting at races on this island.
Recommend that the Chairman
of the Council, in consultation
with the County Council, appoint
a committee of at least two
Councilmen and citizens from the
Big Island, to include Police
Chief Paul or his designate, a
sociologist, and a student.
This committee is to study the
economic and social implication
of pari-mutuel betting in this
county and submit a report to
the County Council on or before
December 1, 1974.
