HomeMy WebLinkAboutREP JCR 004 02/15/1973 1972-1976 J0INT C0MMITTEES PWC/PSTC REPORT NO, 4 Hawaii County Council Hilo,Hawaii The following is the recommendation of the Joint Committee comprised of the Public Works and Public Safety & Transportation Committees which was considered at its meeting of February 15, 1973: COMMUNICATION Alco. No. 63: IMPROVEMENTS TO PALANI ROAD From Councilman Kawahara dated December 29, 1972, recommending the following improvements to Palani Road: 1. Construct a pedestrian sidewalk from the village to the new post office; \ , 2. Widen the road, preferably on the south side at least 5 or 6 feet, with a striped pedestrian walking area; 3. Improve the bumpy condition of the road; 4. Grade and fill the shoulders on both sides of the road; 5. Trim trees and bushes around the curves to improve visibility; 6. Consider installation of an automatic traffic control light system at Kuakini Highway and Palani Road; 7.. Stripe a pedestrian crosswalk at the entrance to Kealakehe School for the children crossing Palani Road and paint warning "Slow! Children Crossing ! " on the pavement on both sides of the crosswalk about 100 feet away. Feels that realignment of Palani Road can be postponed indefinitely in view of the imminent completion of the Kaahumanu Highway from Kawaihae to Keahole Airport in July, 1973.
