Gibson, . Chairman, Building Committee, Hawaii Island Humane Society, feels that a similar arrangement • like the operation of a Kona Pound by the West Hawaii Humane Society, may be advantageous between the County and the Hawaii Island Humane Society. Advises that they have approximately three acres of land in Keaau which should be a suitable site for an Animal Shelter: Receive and file . Ate. e - No . 797: KAHOA ROAD AT HONOLII Highway Safety Council informs of traffic congestion on Kahoa Road at Honolii: Accept recommendations of the Highway Safety Council and the Police Department that (1) a no parking zone be created on the mauka side of Kahoa Road from Maile Stream bridge for a distance of 1, 100 feet in the Hilo direction and that the proper amendments be made to create the no parking zone, (2) adequate "No Parking" and T'Slo 4 or "Caution" signs be posted, and (3 ) mauka shoulder be improved for vehicular use . ,<,.cc, C.- 797.1: Chief Engineer submits cost estimate to improve mauka shoulder and cost estimate for land purchase and paving of turn-around area: Report No. File No. X'` e_,ADOPTED: February24, 1971 • M. No . 1152: FLASHING LIGHTS - HONALO (Rec . 3/WC-44) Mayorsubmits. the Chief Engineer's interim report on the subject request informing that a field investigation will be scheduled in mid-December to determine the need for a flashing light : 1152.1: Chief Engineer informs that the State Highway Division will undertake a study of the Kuakini-Mamalahoa Highway intersection to see if flashing lights or other safety measures are warranted since Kuakini Highway is under State jurisdiction. Therefore, their Traffic Division will not conduct a separate study but will check with the State Highways Division on its study and recommenda- tion: Receive and file . By: Mrs. Yadao ) Approve and recommend passage of Bill No . 770 on first reading. .� S PWC-51 --4 - Feb. 19, 1971 r C No . 1221: SIGN VARIANCE - SURF AND SAND APARTMENTS Romer-Noyes Enterprises requests a variance to have a sign on both sides of their driveway entrance on Alii Drive, Kailua-Kona, to identify their Surf and Sand Apartments from either direction: 1221.1: Chief Engineer informs that Section $ (b) (2) of the Sign Ordinance allows only one ground sign for this purpose and recommends that the request for the second sign be denied: Accept recommendation of the Chief Engineer and deny the request for the second sign. Q•- No . 1243 : REQUEST FOR STREET LIGHT - KAOHE SUBDIVISION IN PAAUILO Councilman De Luz requests favorable consideration of the request for the installation of street lights on pole Nos. 2L and 5 at Kaohe Subdivision in Paauilo : Refer to the Chief Engineer for consideration in the street light priority list . «: d-- No . 1250: QUITCLAIM DEED FOR PROPOSED 20-FOOT ROAD KALANIHONUA TRACT, ANUHEA VOLCANO HOUSE LOTS, OLAA, PUNA Chief Engineer submits quitclaim deed for the subject road for the Council's consideration, approval and authorization for execution of the document by the Mayor: Approve of the quitclaim deed and grant authorization to the Mayor to execute the document . C -- No . 1252: WAIOHINU FLOOD CONTROL - PUBLIC MEETING Councilman Carpenter informs that Mr. Albert Nakano of Kau Soil Conservation Service District has requested that the Council hold a public meeting on the Waiohinu Flood Control system Tuesday, March 16, 1971, at 7 :30 p.m. at the Naalehu Community Clubhouse to informally discuss the proposed alignment of the channel with the residents of the area, the consultants and the Chief Engineer. Recommends that the Council initiate action in calling this meeting: Recommend that the Council hold a public meeting on the Waiohinu Flood Control system on Tuesday, March 16, 1971, at 7 :30 p.m. at 411 PWC-51 - 5 Feb. 19, 1971 No . 1252 the Naalehu Community Clubhouse (cont . ) _ and notify all interested parties of this meeting. No . 1253 : IMPROVEMENTS TO HAMAKUA, ROADS PAAUILO-KAAPAHU HOMESTEAD ROAD Chief Engineer informs that in order to accelerate the implementation of the realignment and improvement of three hazardous curves on the Paauilo-Kaapahu Homestead Road, a construction right-of-entry was requested of Paauhau Sugar Company. Since Paauhau Sugar Company is reluctant in granting a construction right-of-entry, requests that the Council grant assurance that the road remnants will be abandoned for road purpose by resolution and quitclaim deed upon completion of the project, whereby the abutting property owners can apply to the State of Hawaii to acquire the remnants. Necessary papers for approval by the Council will be prepared at the appropriate time: Approve request that the Council grant assurance that the road remnants will be abandoned for road purpose by resolution and quitclaim deed upon completion of the project . e -No . 1256 : ROAD DEDICATION DEED, KONA COASTVIEW SUBDIVISION, NORTH KONA Corporation Counsel submits for acceptance, a road . dedication deed for the above subdivision, and informs that the Public Works Department has recommended acceptance : Accept road dedication deed . 4.-- d - No . 1259: APOKI STREET Planning Director informs that according to the Hawaiian- English dictionary, the word "Apoki" is not listed as a Hawaiian word .
