From Chief Engineer dated December 29, 1971, trans-
mitting for adoption Resolution No . 442 authorizing
the Corporation Counsel to initiate proceedings in
Eminent Domain to acquire the land rights necessary
for the subject project :

No . 1737 : BAYFRONT PARKING AREA (Rec . 3/PWC-6$)
From Leland Schulenberg, President, Hilo Downtown
Improvement Association, dated November 26, 1971,
responding to the possibility of changing the last
row of parking meters from the present two hours to
eight hours . They feel that it is a good idea to
change rows three and four across from Standard Drug
to 8-hour parking with 50 for two hours, but they
would not like to see the last row next to the fence
adjacent to Kalakaua Street changed :

that they concur with the Hilo Downtown Improvement
Association's recommendation of changing only Rows 3
and 4 across from Standard Drug to 8-hour parking with
5¢ for two hours . Also attaches a draft of the proposed
bill:

reading .

transmitting for disposition a letter from Joseph B.
Wertz regarding the Old County Road in Kona:

cost estimates for improvements for the section of the
subject road approximately 7,600 feet long :
1. Permanent improvements - 3900, 000
2 . Improvements to substandard classification -

4. Resurfacing existing pavement only - 370,000:
Request Chief Engineer to include
improvements to the road as suggested
under Item No . 2 on an incremental
basis over the next three years and
inform Mr. Wertz of the action.

December 27, 1971, transmitting the road dedication
deed which dedicates to the County a 10-foot roadway
lot along government right-of-way and informing that
the Public Works Department has recommended acceptance :

, ' No . 17$$: VARIANCE TO VENT AN OVEN OVER COUNTY PROPERTY
From Jerry Rothstein, Kau Kau Place, dated January 6,
1972, requesting a variance to vent a pizza oven
through the screen above the front window and up to
the roof alongside the building located on Kilauea
Avenue . A variance is required as the pipes would
extend beyond the building line over the sidewalk:

NORTH KOHALA
From Chief Engineer dated January 4, 1972, trans-
mitting copies of Bishop Estate 's letters and
enclosures requesting the County to quitclaim its
interest in the subject abandoned road, which was
abandoned by Resolution No . 205, adopted August 23,
1967, by the former Board of Supervisors and also
copies of a standard quitclaim deed for approval
and authorization for execution of the deed by the
Mayor.
Upon the County quitclaiming its interest to the
State, the matter will be referred to the Department
of Land and Natural Resources for disposition:
Approve request to quitclaim the
County's interest in the abandoned
Maliu Road and authorize execution
of the deed by the Mayor.
ALL.C- No . 1795 : REDUCED SPEED LIMIT FOR MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY, PAPAIKOU
From Philip D. Hooton, Chairman, Highway Safety Council,
dated January 7, 1972, recommending that the speed limit
be reduced on the old Mamalahoa Highway in Papaikou,
between Yoshiyama Store and Kalanianaole School, from
35 mph to 25 mph:
Accept recommendation and refer to
the Corporation Counsel to prepare
proper amendment .

FOR KAILUA-KONA
From Philip D. Hooton, Chairman, Highway Safety Council,
dated January 7, 1972, recommending that subsection(c )2
of Section 17-7, Ordinance No . 39, be amended for the
establishment of one-hour time limit parking for Alii
Drive in Kailua Village, from Palani Road to and
including Reuben's Restaurant :
Approve the establishment of one-hour
time limit parking on Alii Drive in
Kailua-Kona, from Palani Road to and
including Reuben's Restaurant, where
parking is allowed, and refer to the
Corporation Counsel to prepare the
proper amendment .

AMENDMENTS
4c.. Comm. 1788: VARIANCE TO VENT AN OVEN OVER COUNTY PROPERTY
From Jerry Rothstein, Kau Kau Place, dated January 6,
1972, requesting a variance to vent a pizza oven
through the screen above the front window and up to
the roof alongside the building located on Kilauea
Avenue. A variance is required as the pipes would
extend beyond the building line over the sidewalk:
The variance to Zoning Ordinance 63,
Section 30-b-4 be granted subject to
the conditions imposed by the Dept.
of Public Works.
