The following are the recommendations of the Public Works
Committee which were considered at its meeting of August 17, 1972:
COMMUNICATIONS
No. 1905.3 : SCENIC ROUTE SIGNS - OLD HAMAKUA COAST HIGHWAY
From Chief Engineer Edward Harada dated August. 9,
1972, informing of the coordination with the State
Highways Division for the installation of 'two
scenic route guide signs along Route 19 at Pepeekeo
and Kalaoa.

4C No. 1937.4: _ BICYCLE SAFETY
From Philip D. Hooton, Chairman of the Highway Safety
Council, dated August 14, 1972, informing that the
Council discussed the subject matter in depth during
its recent meetings and voted to concur with the
recommendations of the Deputy Corporation Counsel.

No. 2091: REVIEW OF RENTAL RATES (FC-85/Rec. 3)
From Chief Engineer Edward Harada dated August 8,
1972, attaching list of County and private industry
rental rates with comments for information.
Receive and file and request
the Chief Engineer to make any
adjustments in the rates for the
next fiscal year if he thinks
it's advisable.

4, No. 2094: KALOKO MAUKA SUBDIVISION - IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT
NO. 10
From Chief Engineer Edward Harada dated August 9,
1972, submitting (1) corrected assessment map,
(2) revised preliminary assessment roll, (3) final
assessment report. Recommends Council accept Final
Assessment Report and give notice of public hearing
on the total amount of the improvement cost and
assessment rate. Encloses for adoption resolution
ratifying the assessment report and calling for the
public hearing.
Approve and adopt Resolution
No. 547 to accept the Final
Assessment Report, and a
public hearing be held on
September 27, 1972, at 1:30 p.m.
in the County Councilroom.
,SFr. No. 2097: NENE STREET
From Philip D. Hooton, Chairman of the Highway Safety
Council, dated August 14, 1972, informing that the
Council approved the Police Department's recommendation
to designate Nene Street as a through street and requests
that Ordinance 39 be so amended.
Approve the request and refer
to the Corporation Counsel to
prepare the proper amendment.

RECOMMENDATIONS
No. 1: Council members to make recommendations to the Public
Works Committee within 60 days of any changes they
feel should be made to the building code.

No. 2: Public Works Department consider the installation of
street lights along the Papaikou Gym Clubhouse and two
short dead end streets fronting the clubhouse. /P'
