The following are the recommendations of the Committee on Agriculture
and Tourism which were considered at its meeting of September 14, 1977 :
COMMUNICATIONS
iNo. 456 : HAWAII FORESTRY POTENTIAL
From Council Chairman Harvey S. Tajiri dated July 6, 1977,
attaching for review and recommendation, a report titled
"Hawaii Forestry Potential" submitted and authored by
Vern L. Gurnsey, Vice President, Industry Affairs of
Boise Cascade. Suggests, after committee' s deliberations,
this report be forwarded to the County Administration and
the State Departments of Planning and Economic Development,
Agriculture, Land and Natural Resources, for their reaction
to the recommendation advanced by Mr. Gurnsey.
456.1 : From Hideto Kono, Director, Department of Planning and
Economic Development, dated August 26, 1977 , submitting
for information, copy of a plan entitled, "Conceptual
Plan and Guidelines for Selecting Tree Planting Sites
for Industrial Wood Production ," which is presently
before the Board of Land and Natural Resources for
approval; feels that all the points brought out in
Mr. Gurnsey' s recommendations will be adequately covered
upon implementation of this plan.

From Gene F. Wilhelm, District Manager, Hawaii Visitors
Bureau, dated September 1, 1977, transmitting a proposed
marketing program for the County of Hawaii as developed
earlier this year by the Vice President-Marketing of the
Hawaii Visitors Bureau, and reports on activities and
programs of the Bureau.
