Your Committee on Finance to which was referred:
Comm. 843 : EMPLOYMENT AND PAYMENT OF SPECIAL COUNSEL
From Corporation Counsel Stephen G. Bess dated
June 13 , 1978, informing their office was
unable to provide the Board of Ethics with
legal counsel on May 24, 1978, due to a conflict
of interest under the Profession Code of
Responsibility, Hawaii Supreme Court, and
submits a bill from Special Attorney General
Stuart Oda who was asked to provide legal
services to the Board of Ethics in their place.
Pursuant to Section 5-2. 5 of the Hawaii County
Charter, requests approval for the employment
of Special Counsel and payment for same;
recommends approval of the request for employment of Special
Counsel and payment of $100 for legal services rendered to the
Board of Ethics by Special Attorney General Stuart Oda regarding
the SAMESHIMA v. YAMASHIRO ethics complaint.
