Your Committee on Finance to which was referred:
Comm. 897.2: SALARY ORDINANCE AMENDMENT
(Res. 415) POLICE DEPARTMENT
SPECIAL TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT UNIT
From Director of Personnel Services Edward L. Silva
dated April 17, 1979 submitting for adoption, a
resolution to amend the Salary Ordinance to change
the positions approved by Resolution 354 for the
Special Traffic Enforcement Unit from "exempt" to
??civil service" status because of the difficulty
the Police Department is encountering in finding
officers who are willing to give up their civil
service status and seniority to man the exempt
positions .which have been created. Chief of Police
Guy A. Paul informs when the Federal funds terminate,
the personnel in these positions will be phased into
existing positions in the department;
recommends Council approve the transfer of the following exempt,
federally -funded positions from Federal and State Funded and convert
to civil service positions for the Police Department, Special Traffic
Enforcement Unit: one position of Police Sergeant SR -21, nine
positions of Police Officer SR -1$, and one position of Clerk -Stenographer
SR -9.
Further recommends the accompanying, Resolution 415 be adopted to
accomplish this purpose.
