'Comm. 1217: ORDINANCE NO . 365 - TAXI FARES
SHARED-RIDE PROGRAM AND RATE INCREASE
Fr717—nErnestE. SmirnlatedMaY , 1979 requesting
amendment to Ordinance 365 to set guidelines for
a shared-ride program enabling taxi operators to
qualify for the Federal gas tax rebate of four
cents per gallon. Informs passengers are allowed
a 20 percent reduction of the regular meter rate
for the inconvenience of not having an exclusive
cab but still have the option of paying the full
meter rate if they desire an exclusive cab.
Also requests a rate increase to 31.00 for the
first 1/10th mile and $ .10 for each additional
1/10th mile due to the skyrocketing cost of
gasoline and the constant increase of the cost
of operations.
1217 .1: From N. Palakiko, Kailua-Kona taxi driver,
requesting reconsideration of the proposed increase
in taxi fares as it would make local people not
utilize the taxis and the tourists will be renting
out more cars from the rental companies or take
the limousine service from the airport .

542) submitting for favorable action, ordinance bills
to increase the taxi fares and to implement the
share-ride system;
recommends the communications be placed on file; and approve and adopt
Bill Nos . 541 and 542 on first reading.
