RESOLUTION NO. 125 1 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S BIKE PATROL PROGRAM IN COUNCIL DISTRICT 2. WHEREAS, the County of Hawai`i Police Department, Community Policing Unit,is committed to working cooperatively with the community to enforce laws,preserve peace, and provide a safe environment; and WHEREAS,the Community Policing Unit has a Bike Patrol program that provides more visibility and presence in the community and has proven very effective in addressing street-level crimes, public nuisance complaints,recurring problems, and property crimes; and WHEREAS,bike patrols are also necessary for large community events such as the Merrie Monarch Festival,the Domestic Violence Walk, the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event, and various marathons,parades, rallies, protests, fundraisers, and public gatherings; and WHEREAS, the bicycles used for the Bike Patrol program in Council District 2 are weathered, aged, and unsafe for officers to ride, and the Police Department is lacking maintenance funds for tune-ups, brake and chain replacements, tires, gears, and other essentials; and WHEREAS,the Police Department is requesting funds for the Bike Patrol program in Council District 2 for maintenance costs and the purchase of new bikes, safety equipment, and uniforms; now,therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Police Department for the Bike Patrol program in Council District 2. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
