B.R.A.V.E. Hawaii, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Hawai`i students understand that a key to success is "Being Respectful And Valuing Everybody". Funds will be used to provide airfare for trainers and materials for their program to prevent underaged and illegal substance abuse. Additionally, the 2018 National Conference of State Liquor Administrators (NCSLA) will be held in Denver Colorado in June 2017. The Department of Liquor Control is working with the Colorado Liquor Control and NCSLA to run this conference. Funds will be used for travel expenses for three staff members and two liquor commissioners to participate in the event. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): Pursuant to Rule 2-3E of the Rules and Regulations of the Liquor Commission of the Department of Liquor Control of the County of Hawaii, State of Hawaii, the Director is authorized to "designate a portion of fine monies collected for use in programs to promote compliance to liquor laws. Such programs may include, but is not limited to enforcement, public service announcements, promoting responsible drinking and driving, youth programs and education." 1) B.R.A.V.E. Hawaii, Inc. is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping Hawaii students to understand that a key to success is Being Respectful And Valuing Everybody. Director and volunteer of B.R.A.V.E. Hawaii, Inc., Augusto Tulba, better known as celebrity/comedian Augie T, has created an "I'm B.R.A.V.E Hawaii Island" Underage and Illegal Substance Abuse Prevention Program. Augie and his guest speakers/trainers will share their expertise and motivational stories to encourage students not to drink through a series of visits and sessions with our schools. This program will run through the 2017-18 school year with 6 Hawaii Island public middle schools willing to participate. Students will take the B.R.A.V.E. pledge and get a B.R.A.V.E. ID card that will entitle them to discounts at participating businesses committed to help prevent underage drinking. Funds will be used for airfare for trainers, awareness materials such posters, videos and social media campaigns, student giveaways such as ID cards, parent guides, t-shirts and a possible end-of-year concert for those that take the B.R.A.V.E. pledge. Hands-on training will be available at the 2017 National Conference to be held in Denver in June 2017 and our staff will work side by side with this year's host, Colorado Liquor Control. The responsibilities are enormous as planning began 3+ years ago. Working directly with the Colorado Liquor Control and NCSLA staff would ensure a successfully run conference and hopes of bringing other alcohol beverage organizations and conferences to Hawaii Island. Funds will be used to cover travel expenses for 3 staff members and 2 liquor commissioners to work and experience the NCSLA's National Conference and to promote the 2018 Conference which is expected to bring 400-500 guests and hopefully more to the Hawaii Island for a 5-day conference. Attending the conference will also provide for further knowledge about our ever growing and changing liquor industry.
