RESOLUTION NO. 156 17
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HAWAII
ISLAND PORTUGUESE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CULTURAL AND
EDUCATIONAL CENTER TO ASSIST WITH THE 2017 PORTUGUESE CULTURE
AND HERITAGE EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS.
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce Cultural and
Educational Center (HIPCCCEC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was formed to
promote and sustain, among other things, the culture and heritage of the Portuguese; and
WHEREAS, the HIPCCCEC has launched its 2017 Portuguese Culture and Heritage
Education and Community Outreach programs, activities, and events designed to celebrate and
perpetuate the Portuguese culture and heritage on Hawaii Island;
WHEREAS, HIPCCCEC promotes outreach by conducting public and private exhibits,
discussion groups and other means of disseminating and sharing information regarding the
culture and heritage of the Portuguese; and
WHEREAS, the HIPCCCEC is requesting funds to assist with the purchase of materials
and supplies to make portable displays to enhance its education and community outreach
program, and other expenses, including. but not limited to, printing of informational brochures
and flyers, advertising, and signage; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports programs that
facilitate the sustainability of 1lawai'i Island communities through community based
collaboration; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code.
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program. project.event.
activity, service, equipment.materials. or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now.
therefore.
RE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of
Research and Development to provide a grant to the Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of
Commerce Cultural and Educational Center to assist with the 2017 Portuguese Culture and
Heritage Education and Community Outreach programs, activities, and events.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
