Dear Chairwoman Poindexter and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Jon Olson of Council District 4 to the County of Hawaii
Environmental Management Commission. Mr. Olson has been a resident of Hawaii for
over 39 years. He is a retired business owner building, repairing, and sales of small
boats and recreational vessels. Currently, Mr. Olson is a very active member of our
island community and volunteers in numerous organization including the Pahoa
Mainstreet Association, Sierra Club, Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Pahoa Regional
Town Center Planning Committee. Mr. Olson states that "littering & dumping has had
significant negative impact on my community" and has spearheaded many different
clean-up efforts including initiating the Abandoned Vehicle and Recycle Hawaii projects.
Mr. Olson is a member of the Democratic party. If confirmed, he will serve to fill a
vacant term ending December 31, 2018.
