Re: Acceptance of Donation
In accordance with (1) Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawaii County Charter. which
provides that the Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts of donations of
money,securities or other personal property or of real estate or any interest in real estate,
and with (2) Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2-162 (b), of the Hawaii County Code, which
states that a gift or donation of money, securities, or personal property not covered by the
capitalization procedures (of the Department of Finance) shall be submitted to the
Council by letter for its approval, we request the Council's approval of the following
donation:
Six Dell OptiPlex 760 computer systems with a total value of approximately $300,
are being donated by Mr. Matthew laukea of the Hawaii County Police
Department, 349 Kapi'olani Street, Hilo, Hawaii 96720.
Please send a letter of appreciation to Mr. Iaukca cio the address provided above. If there
are any questions, please do not hesitate to call Hauoli Aiona of the Hawai`i County
Police Department at 961-2273.

A. REQUEST:
Request approval to accept and acknowledge a donation of 6 Dell OptiPlex 760 with a valuation of$50 per
unit from Mr. Matthew laukea. The units will be used for replacing existing systems and new initiatives within
the Hawaii Police Department.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The donation will be used by the Hawaii Police Department to replace computer systems that are beyond
warranty/servicing and new program initiatives. If the systems are not received, the department will need to
procure computer systems.

RE: Authorizing The Acceptance Of A Monetary Donation Of Six Dell OptiPlex 760 Computer
Systems From Matthew laukea To The Hawaii County Police Department
Pursuant to Section 2(g) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
I lawai`i, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above-referenced matter be
waived from the Committee on Finance to the full Council for immediate action. In reviewing
this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and
the matter be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request
is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall he referred to the Committee on
Finance for placement on its future agenda.
