Aloha,
My name is Veronica Lehua Fields and I was born and raised on Hawaii island in the
ahupua'a of Kona. Where I reside, there are hundreds of Ohi'a lehua. They are not only
beautiful, but they are a key factor in our watershed. They are also home to the
endangered Hawaiian hawk ('Io). As a native Hawaiian, I recognize the importance of
our forests for water production. This rapid Ohi'a death is devastating our islands
forests, and so I will support any movement, idea, or plan of action that will help stop
the spread of this terrible disease. So, I support resolutions108-17 and 109-17, in hopes
that we can soon find a solution to this problem.
For our keiki,
