Subject: Budget Testimony for Hawaii Police Department Regarding Animal Control Contract
HSUS is totally ineffective using taxpayer money to reduce the killing. You need to do something about this.
The coupon program is extremely inconvenient, they run out of coupons, and people can't always get off work
or arrange a vet appointment before the coupon expires. We need CONVENIENT free spay/neuter, all the time,
for everyone, not with HIHS issued coupons, not just at the 3 shelters, but also clinics that are convenient for
people all over the island. Wealthy people won't use this service. The rescue orgs hire a vet to do spay/neuter
for a day at a free clinic, why doesn't HIHS do that?
HIHS raised,per their own website, $1 million for a fancy building plus someone donated $800,000 for the
land,but they didn't bother to raise one penny for free spay/neuter.
HIHS is too blind to see there is another way to reduce over-population,they are in denial. Many other places
have gotten to low-kill or no-kill—learn from them, don't try to reinvent the wheel.
