Your Committee on-Environmental Management, to which was referred Communication No.
193, reports as follows:
Communication No. 193, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated March 30, 2017, nominates
Jon Olson of Council District 4 to the Environmental Management Commission. Motion to
approve nomination of Jon Olson was made by Councilmember Karen Eoff; 2nd by
Councilmember Maile David. •
As introduced by Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Harry Kim, Mr. Olson is a
39-year resident of Hawai`i and is a retired business owner. Mr. Olson is currently a very active
member of our island community and volunteers in numerous organizations including the Pahoa
Mainstreet Association, Sierra Club, Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Pahoa Town Center
Planning Committee. Mr. Olson states that"littering & dumping has had significant negative
impacts on my community" and he has spearheaded many different clean-up efforts.
Nominee Olson was present and thanked committee members for their support and for the
opportunity to serve on the Environmental Management Commission.
Committee members spoke overwhelmingly in support of the nomination and thanked Mr. Olson
for his many years of continued commitment to community advocacy and volunteerism.

Your Committee on Environmental Management is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Communication No. 193 and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Jon Olson to
the Environmental Management Commission.
