Dear Chairwoman Poindexter and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Mr. Warren Arakaki of District 5 to the Hawai'i County
Liquor Commission. Mr. Arakaki is a Physical Therapist and has worked and managed
Arakaki Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation, Inc. since 1988. Mr. Arakaki was
born and raised in Hilo. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree with a Certificate in
Physical Therapy from Pacific University in Oregon.
Mr. Arakaki is an active member of our community and has previously volunteered as a
University of Hawai'i at Hilo Baseball assistant coach and a Hilo High School baseball
head coach.
Mr. Arakaki is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will serve a term
ending December 31, 2021.
Additionally, we respectfully request that the aforementioned nomination be waived past
committee meetings and be heard directly at Council as the Liquor Commission has not
been able to conduct recent important meetings for lack of quorum.

RE: Communication No. 251 : Nomination of Warren Arakaki to the Liquor Commission
Pursuant to Section 2(g) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawai`i, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above-referenced matter be
waived from the Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit to the full Council for immediate
action. In reviewing this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that
approval is granted and the matter be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However,
in the event this request is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred
to the Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit for placement on its future agenda.
