RESOLUTION NO. 193 17
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE KEAUHOU
CANOE CLUB TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH ITS 1ST ANNUAL
ALA KAHAKAI LONG DISTANCE CANOE RACE.
WHEREAS, the Keauhou Canoe Club, formerly known as Kauikeaouli Canoe Club, is a
501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate the youth, its members, and the
community at large about the Hawaiian culture, values, and traditions; and
WHEREAS, the Keauhou Canoe Club promotes competitive and recreational outrigger
canoe paddling and other water sports in historic Keauhou Bay; and
WHEREAS, the Keauhou Canoe Club, will hold its 1St Annual Ala Kahakai Long
Distance Canoe Race on August 12, 2017, from Anaeho`omalu Bay to Keauhou Bay, which
will also serve as a qualifying race for Moloka`i Hoe and Na Wahine 0 Ke Kai; and
WHEREAS, the Keauhou Canoe Club is requesting funds to help pay for expenses
related to the event like food, t-shirts, and prizes; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations and programs that
promote alcohol- and drug-free activities that focus on health and wellness; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of
Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Keauhou Canoe Club to assist with expenses associated
with its 1st Annual Ala Kahakai Long Distance Canoe Race.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
