RESOLUTION NO. 197 17
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE GRASSROOTS
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT GROUP TO SUPPORT THE FOREST ROOTS
FAMILY EDUCATION DAY AND HUNTING TOURNAMENT.
WHEREAS,the Grassroots Community Development Group is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization whose purpose is to support individuals and groups that provide programs,
activities, events,projects, educational workshops, etc., that benefit the public and are free of
charge; and
WHEREAS, the Grassroots Community Development Group will be partnering with the
Bodacious Ladies of Puna, the Nanawale Community Association, the University of Hawai`i
Cooperative Extension Service, and the Hawai`i State Division of Forestry and Wildlife to host
the Forest Roots Family Education Day and Hunting Tournament on June 17, 2017, to promote
awareness about Rapid `Ohi`a Death(ROD) and the fungus that causes it; and
WHEREAS, the Forest Roots Family Education Day and Hunting Tournament will
include activities and contests for families, the hunting tournament, casting contest, forest
education, demonstrations, and ocean activities; and
WHEREAS, this event falls within the Department of Research and Development's
mission to facilitate and support the sustainability of our island's communities through
community-based collaborations and capacity building services; and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of
Research and Development to provide a grant to the Grassroots Community Development Group
to support the Forest Roots Family Education Day and Hunting Tournament.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

• BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
