An initial appropriation ($1,200,000) was approved last year for the FEMA funding resulting from the 2006 Kiholo earthquake; however, at that time only estimates were available from the State Civil Defense and FEMA. The purpose of the National Tsunami Hazard Mitigation Program is to provide funding to coastal states for tsunami mitigation initiatives to lessen the loss of life and damage to property. Contingency Relief funds from District 1 would be used as a grant for the Ka Hale O Na Keiki Preschool (project) who has been mandated to close its large capacity cesspool, consequently tearing up the playground and tricycle pathway.
