Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 245, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 245, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated April 11, 2017, nominates
Ms. Mary Freitas of Council District 2 to the Hawai`i County Board of Appeals.
Ms. Freitas has lived in Hawai`i for 34 years and is affiliated with the Democratic party.
If confirmed, she will serve a term ending December 31, 2021.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced Nominee Freitas.
Ms. Freitas appeared in person for this nomination.
Several Council Members commented in favor of Ms. Freitas. The vote was then taken with all
Council Members voting"aye." Chair Eoff stated that Ms. Freitas did not need to appear at the
Council meeting on May 17, 2017, for confirmation of her appointment.
Pursuant to Section 6-9.2 of the Hawai`i County Charter, members of the Board of Appeals shall
be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication
No. 245, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mary Freitas to the Hawai`i
County Board of Appeals.
