RE: Bill No. 32- Department of Environmental Presentation Request- Closure of the Hilo
Landfill
Attached is a request for a short presentation to be given by the Department of Environmental
Management. They will discuss proposed activities, preliminary proposed designs and updates
regarding the closure of the Hilo Landfill.

Dear Council Member Poindexter:
It is our understanding that Bill 32 is scheduled come before the full County Council on June 7, 2017.
This is for the $20 million SRF funding for the closure of the Hilo Landfill.
DEM would appreciate 5 minutes of the Council's time to present a quick overview of the proposed
activities, preliminary proposed closure designs and update on DEM meeting on June 1 with DOH in
Honolulu.
DEM will prepare handouts for the Council and present information on the needs and function of these
funds. DEM is also available for any Council Member outside of the Council meetings, understanding
that due to the sunshine code, we cannot meet with more than two of you at one time.
Please let me know if the short presentation can be allowed before the final vote on this issue.
