Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii The following are the recommendations of the Committee on Public Works which were considered at its meeting of December 14, 19.77 : COMMUNICATIONS • ,L, Comm. 604: CIP APPROPRIATION$ (Bill 360) From Mayor Herbert T. Matayoshi dated November 2 , 1977, informing a number of appropriations for capital improve- ments lapsed on June 30, 1977 and submits an ordinance bill to. appropriate $25,000 for the Puna Road Baseyard; $75,000 for North Hilo Solid Waste, and $100,000 for extension of the Hilo Sewer System along Kuawa Street. Also submits for review and decision on re-appropriation, a list of other projects that lapsed on June 30, 1977. Approve- and recommend passage of Bill 360 on first reading. Comm. 615 : ROAD DEDICATION DEED WAIAKEA HIGH COUNTRY SUBDIVISION WAIAKEA, SOUTH HILO From Corporation Counsel Stephen G. Bess dated November 21, 1977 transmitting for acceptance, the dedication deed for roadway within the Waiakea High Country Subdivision. Advises the description of the roadway has been checked and found to be acceptable for dedication by the Department': of Public Works; also that the roadway has been constructed according to County standards. No. ...�l JA N 4 197 Date: -... .� lik' 1116 I� , PWC-21 -2- December 14, 1977 Comm. 616 : LIGHT REPLACEMENT - KONA DISTRICT Copy of letter to Chief Engineer from Mabel Peterson, President, Kona Crime Prevention Committee, dated November 6, 1977, informing that the replacement of lights in the Kona District has fallen into a deplorable situation. Burglary and theft statistics have increased and there have been numerous calls for replacement of lights in business and residential areas. Questions why the County hires only Mauna Kea Electric in Hilo for the replacement work and not a local Kona contractor for West Hawaii services to save expense and time on replace- ments. Requests advice as to what can be done to improve the existing lighting as it is a major crime determent and an important priority for-:;the safety of Kona residents and bus in esmen. 616.1 : Copy of letter to Mrs. Mabel Peterson, Kona Crime Prevention Committee from Chief Engineer Edward Harada dated November 23, 1977, responding to her letter of November 6, 1977 regarding street lighting in the Kona area. Advises the description has been checked and found to be acceptable for dedication by the Department of Public Works; also that the park site has been completed according to County standards and has met with the zoning and Subdivision Code requirements. Comm. 618: HONOKAA TANK SITE - KU I LE I 1st - HAMAKUA From Manager Akira Fujimoto, Department of Water Supply, submitting a deed quitclaiming property to Honokaa Sugar Company; and informs the tank site is no longer needed in the operation of the water system. Accept deed to quitclaim property to Honokaa Sugar Company. • PWC- 21 - 3 - =.� December 14, 1977 Comm. 620 : ABANDONMENT RESOLUTION AND QUITCLAIM DEED FOR APPORTION (Rbs. 192) OF THE OLD KAILUA-KEAUHOU BEACH ROAD, KAPALAALAE, 2ND, NORTH KONA From Chief Engineer Edward Harada dated November 15 , 1977 transmitting for acceptance, the quitclaim deed and an ". abandonment resolution for the subject road. Advises the documents have been reviewed and approved by the Corporation Counsel ' s office; also that the roadway is no longer needed for public purpose and is recommended for abandonment.
