The Planning Commission at its meeting of April 1, 1999, voted to recommend that the
County Council adopt a street name for the roadway within the Ka'awaloa Orchards
Agricultural project district, Ka'awaloa, South Kona, Hawaii.

consideration.

Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Resolution No. 75-99, transmitted by
Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro per Communication No. 246, dated Apri19, 1999, regazding the
naming of a street in the County of Hawaii, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 75-99 authorizes the naming of the unnamed roadway within the Ka`awaloa
Orchazds Agricultural project district in Ka`awaloa, South Kona, in the County of Hawaii.
Pursuant to Section 22-35, Article 2, Chapter 22, Hawaii County Code, the Council is authorized
to adopt street names for Hawaii County's unnamed roadways. The Planning Commission at its
April 1, 1999 meeting, voted to recommend the adoption of the street name to "Makahiki Lane",
which is named after the festival period during which Captain Cook visited.
Your Committee on Planning concurs with the intent and purpose of Resolution No. 75-99, and
recommends its adoption.
