Your Committee on Public Works to which was referred:
`Comm. 893: SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL
From Councilman William S. Kawahara dated
August 3, 1978, informing after his recent
inspection of landfill operations in Atlanta,
Georgia and Los Angeles County, he has come
to the conclusion that the process of shredding
or bailing as a preliminary to landfilling
is largely an extraneous activity and should
be discouraged in Hawaii County. Recommends
that the tentative plans to install a shredder
at the Kailua dump be deactivated and funds
earmarked for it be transferred toward the
. Kealakehe Civic Complex.

September 13, 1978 responding to C-893 , and
requests PWC support the Kona Shredder Project
as an alternative to the present Kailua landfill
operation.
