FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS DISPLAY - COCONUT ISLAND
JULY 4, 1979
From Craig Sh.imabukuro, Secretary-Treasurer,
Fourth Fest, Hilo Committee, Lehua Jaycees,
dated May 25, 1979 requesting the closing of
Banyan Drive from the intersection of Banyan Drive
and Lihiwai Street to the intersection of Lihiwai
Street and Banyan Drive on July 4 , 1979 from
7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the preliminaries to the
Carole Kai Bed Race in conjunction with the 3rd
Annual Fourth Fest Hilo celebration. Informs
the necessary barricades and traffic control
devices will be placed to minimize traffic
problems. Also requests the closing of Lihiwai
Street, from the intersection of Banyan Drive
to the entrance to Coconut Island, on Wednesday,
July 4, 1979 from 5 :30 p.m. to 9 :00 p.m. for the
Annual Fourth of July Fireworks Display;

recommends Council approve the request of the Lehua Jaycees to close
Banyan Drive and Lihiwai Street on July 4, 1979 for the Carole Kai Bed
Race and the Fourth of July Fireworks Display, time and area as
stated in the communication, provided that the conditions required by
the Police Department, Fire Department, Hilo Hospital and Public Works
Department are complied with.
